design tools in arabic.
The International Rescue Committee, Jordan, 2025
I traveled to Jordan to lead creation of a dual language website in English and Arabic. The website was a final product for the Mahali Lab, a community-led design incubator working with refugees in Amman. Throughout the course of the project, a number of tools were developed to use the human-centered design approaches in this context. Many tools were adapted from existing approaches to better fit the needs of the refugees, and all were translated into Arabic.
I liaised with the developers, the team on the ground in Jordan, and IRC leadership in New York to create a website that would serve two main strategic purposes: 1) provide resources in Arabic for human-centered design efforts; and 2) showcase work completed for the donor.
We elected to structure the website using design principles for usability, and linked existing videos to design tools to provide multiple pathways for users to find the materials they needed based on their goals.
